The Month That Was

May 2022 Reflections

What can I say about the month of May? May was my first month of being entirely self-employed, no longer relying on a stable income. For someone who is prone to anxiety, this meant a rollercoaster of emotions all month. The emotional support from loved ones, wise words from my therapist & supervisor, all kept me afloat.

May was a wonderfully social month in many ways. I caught up with friends I hadn’t seen for a while, went to dinner with a bunch of wonderful authors, caught up with readers & writers at the Sydney Writers Festival. May was filling my soul with talks at the writer’s festival, theatre performances like Dorian Gray, an evening of free live music at Frankie’s, and my first visit to the movies since 2019. It was wrapping up a writing course at the end of the month & finding time to write, write, and write some more.

May was being mesmerised by autumn sunrises & sunsets, reading at the beach on weekends or days off, walking & exploring parts of Sydney I haven’t been to in a while. It was reading in parks & the beach, visiting new restaurants, but also enjoying time on the couch watching movies & shows. It was complaining about the cold {it’s far too cold!} but loving winter fashion. It was crying with relief at the election results & hoping for a better future.

May was about reaching out, asking for help, navigating learning curves professionally & personally. It was listening to my favourite instrumental music, reading books when possible & only completing two, having long, long conversations about everything & nothing. It was spoiling the cats, being chosen by dogs, & loving the visiting lorikeets. It was being content in so many ways & looking with hope towards the future & trying to doubt myself a little less. It was being kind to others & showing kindness to myself.

I enter June with a full heart & feeling chilled to the bone, wondering what is in store.

How was May for you?

Thank you! It’s been ages since I’ve updated here or read any blogs. I’m hoping to rectify that soon!
