Gratitude

Weekly Gratitude 2021 49/52

Hello from yet another rainy and cold Sydney Sunday. Who would believe it’s December, eh? We had a couple of sunny days briefly last week and it made a difference to my exhaustion and mood. But this weekend has been back to gloomy and grey. Anyhoo, it’s time to focus on all that I am grateful for from 28th November to 4th December 2021:

A lovely brunch in the city on Sunday with a friend followed by attending a refugee poetry slam event

Drinks and dinner with a friend on Sunday evening

Getting through another work week and knowing there are only 14 more work days till the Christmas break

Attending a newish book club in the city on Tuesday for the sole purpose of discussing a book I loved only to find out people didn’t enjoy it! Still, it’s always nice to meet new people

Watching Charlotte Wood speak to Bri Lee at my local library in my lunch break on Wednesday about her latest book The Luminous Solution

Managing to slip away for a swim in my lunch break on Thursday

Lovely final book club for the year on Thursday night discussing The Promise by Damon Galgut

Week 49

Getting my booster shot on Thursday. Can you believe it’s been 6 months since I first got it? Hard to believe at the time I was fully vaccinated, only 2% of the population was

Sleeping through most of Friday due to tiredness – a side effect from my booster shot

Friday night out with some girlfriends in the city

Wandering through the produce markets on Saturday morning

Coffee and reading on Saturday morning at my local – I really enjoy the little things

A fun afternoon at my gym’s Christmas party on Saturday

Being able to go to a vegan ramen restaurant with a friend and her husband on Saturday night. We’ve been trying to go there for a while and glad we were able to get a booking!

Despite the crappy weather for the most part and struggling through my work days, it’s been a good week. I am hoping I can get through the work days over the next few weeks to be able to enjoy the down time and the social activities.

How has your week been?

Do share!

I agree Sanch, especially at times like this, it’s the little things indeed! Hoping the weather improves for us soon and we get some summer.

Bri Lee’s talk on education is a real eye openner. She’s a smart woman. It might be online now. Who gets to be smart.

I must admit I have been a bit sceptical about that but I did enjoy her book Eggshell skull and her work around changing consent laws

Sounds like a great week all round, and yes, only a couple more weeks to get through – although having said that I’m working through the break again this year. I desperately need a whole week away from work – while I’ve had some long weekends I haven’t had a week without logging in since 2019 & am desperate for a proper break.

Oh wow! You do need a proper break. Long weekends are good and all but yeah, a week or two completely away from work is much needed!

I must admit I got excited last week when I was reminded about the week off for Christmas soon. Which of course doesn’t bode well for this new job after only 3wks!

My six months (post Pfizer) is up at the end of December so I’ll need to schedule my booster in the new year.

I’m intrigued about the book you read that no one else at the (other) bookclub liked….

I have to confess I feel some meh-ness about Bri Lee. In late 2019 when I was in Sydney for BAD Crime Writers’ Festival I went to see her interview Rick Morton and there was just something about her that grated. And after – I met Rick and she was there she was very standoffish. Perhaps she’s shy… not sure but I felt a sense of superiority and smugness. (And yes, I know that sounds terribly judgemental!)

I think we’re all done with the year that has been so it’s fine to feel excited about Christmas break!

Oh the book was Sally Rooney’s latest. I know she’s not everyone’s cup of tea and I figured some of the older readers wouldn’t like her work but there were some younger than me and they didn’t like it either. Oh well.

Lol, I will admit I’m not a fan of Bri Lee’s writing necessarily though I do think she’s done great stuff advocating around consent laws. But she should maybe stick to that area of writing as opposed to writing about issues like beauty and education

I am not the only one not to ‘like’ Bri Lee’s work …much nor her affect? Mind you, she is a mate of Rick Morton’s and he is a friend so it might be that I find her a bit of a snob?
Anyway, you are keeping busy at what you can to stay balanced as best anyone can at this stage of the year.
You will not be enjoying this rain…but hey, cricket is on the telly.
Great to catch up with your blog post after linking it to #LifeThisWeek on Denyse Whelan Blogs. Next week, hard to believe, is the 2nd last Monday link up for 2021.
Hope to see you then! I will be sharing my snaps. Denyse.
