Flash Fiction

First time

‘First-time flyer?’ he asked.

She nodded, gripping the armrest as the plane defied laws of gravity.

‘I fly a lot! You’re more likely to die in a car accident than a plane crash.’

She winced and looked out the window. Was that wing meant to be on fire?

OMG that statement, though (“you’re more likely to die…”) – that never helps in the moment. BECAUSE THE WING MIGHT BE ON FIRE.

“As the plane defied the laws of gravity” worked so well in this, both supporting her seatmate and feeding her fear. The wing on fire was a perfect surprise.

I’ve flown dozens of times and I still grip the armrest on takeoff and landing, lol. Nice job, the MC’s fear comes across well.

Nicely done! Personally, I hate flying and statistics don’t help much when the turbulence starts!
