2020 gratitude

Happy Sunday, readers! Welcome to the first weekly gratitude instalment of 2020. It’s been a weird and big week. We bade farewell to 2019 and welcomed 2020. I went back to work for a couple of days as well as a day of private practice all while keeping an eye on the news about the bushfires ravaging our nation. It’s quite depressing and devastating to see the destruction. It hits close to home for me because I love the south coast of NSW and know the places as I road-tripped my way down to Eden and back in 2014. Also in January 2015, a couple of friends and I were in Mallacoota which currently has also copped it. All in all, I feel helpless. That said, it’s time to still look back all that I’m grateful for this past week from 29th December 2019 to 4th January 2020:

Going for a walk across the Harbour Bridge on Sunday night on my own and taking in the beautiful sights. I feel so grateful it’s only a kilometre from where I live

A lovely catch up and walk across the bridge to Circular Quay on Monday evening

Having time to reflect on the year gone by

Spending New Year’s Eve with my friend JR at my place and then going to see the fireworks nearby. I felt a bit guilty for enjoying it while at the same time, realising that personally, this is a huge change in my life and I have so much to be grateful for

Ringing in the new year with a very sweet message

Spending new year’s day reading, going to the gym, lying on the beach and writing a few words

Exercising almost every day this week

Farewelling a colleague on Friday night with ‘wine club’. I might have been tipsy but it was a fun night!

Catch up with coastie friends on Saturday and seeing my friend’s new baby

Lots of cat cuddles when I’ve been feeling depressed about what’s happening in our country

It’s been a decent week personally but my heart continues to hurt with the devastation the fires have been causing.

    It does feel terrible reading about the devastation all around and it makes you feel guilty for the things you are grateful for. But, Sanch, it’s gratitude that we so need to express. It’s what keeps us from taking things for granted and for noticing all that makes our efforts at living life meaningful.

    oh I miss the city and the views. The harbor Bridge view is so beautiful. Hopefully, it wasn’t too smoky.
    Kudos to you for exercising every day. Yes, the devastation breaks my heart too. I really hope the weather favors us soon. Have a great week ahead.
