Hello 2020

Happy New Year everyone! I know people are divided about the new year – some believe it’s just another day, others are big on resolutions and goals. I say you do what works for you. In many ways, it is just another day for me but it also brings with it hope and promise.

Last night, as I watched the fireworks over the harbour bridge, I felt a bit guilty because of all the bushfires around us. Yet, at the same time, it’s not something I have done for years and moving back to Sydney, living somewhere close to where I can view the fireworks, just knowing that it’s a new decade, made me quite emotional. I was also fortunate to be able to spend it with one of my friends. So, unlike the last three years when I’ve been in bed way before midnight, this time around, I was up till 1 in the morning. Not necessarily getting drunk but instead, enjoying reflective conversation and the company of a good friend over food and a couple of drinks.

This morning, I went to the gym and then the beach after which I ended up falling asleep on the couch. I head back to work tomorrow and I am looking forward to it even though a day or two more wouldn’t have hurt.

In the recent past, I have stopped having resolutions but have either chosen a word or an intention to live my life by. I think it helps to be mindful about how you intend on continuing with the year without the pressure of achieving things such as a certain weight or outcome. Last year, I chose to live courageously and make a difference and I’d like to think I did that for the most part. This year, I decided I’d once again for with an intention or motto as opposed to one word.

For 2020, my intention is to Be open and embrace possibilities’.

I think with the move back to Sydney, a new job, a new area, I want to open myself up to learning, to growing, to meeting new people, to new experiences in general and to old friends too. I also want to be open and explore more of my writing – fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction. I’m hoping this motto lends itself to all avenues of my life – work, writing, health, relationships, and leisure. Being open requires courage, vulnerability and authenticity – all of which I value and live my life by.

Apart from that, I intend to continue doing things I love and things that fulfil me in all aspects with the understanding there will be days and weeks where it isn’t possible.

Here’s hoping 2020 is a good year personally but also for the world in general. I hope you all have a wonderful year ahead too.

Have you set yourself a word, intentions, resolutions or goals for 2020?

How was your New Year’s Eve?

Do share!

Hi, last year I picked the word explore, different authors, different food, different places, different ideas. I think I did them all. Haven’t thought about one for this year, yet. Glad you were able to relax today. Hugs x

Awesome! It really helps to have a motto or intention doesn’t it? Almost makes you more mindful and deliberate with your choices. Hope you have a lovely 2020!

I like how you choose a mantra or motto instead of making resolutions and you chose a fantastic one for 2020.
I also stayed up until 1 am to ring in the new year. Spent it writing. My friend’s grandmother says whatever you’re doing on new year’s day is what you’ll do for the rest of the year, so I try to make time for writing on the 1st. ?

I agree with your thoughts Sanch. To be open to new possibilities is the best. Since change is the only constant, being fluid with actions and ideas will help.
All the very best for 2020.

I love your intention for 2020. We never know what we will learn when we open our hearts. My word for 2020 is “humility”. I chose it (or maybe it chose me) because I felt the need to think about ways I could be more humble.

For the past several years we’ve had boring New Year’s eves with both Hubby Dear and Me sleeping through the revelry around us. Sometimes we have a special dinner but this year with my broken hand, celebration was a distant possibility.
My WOTY therefore is Detach/Distance because I realised after my accident that things can happen without me.

How lucky that you were able to see fireworks without the hassle of being in a crowd. I saw them in pictures and it looks fabulous.
A beautiful intention for 2020. Embracing new possibilities takes courage. Hope this year you find all the strength and courage to fulfill your goals.

That’s a good recap, Sanch and I think it was a full year for you. I also worked out on day 1 and that made me happy. I was alone this time but friends came over and stayed until 1. Which was sweet cos their little girl wanted to go home and then did not budge. So I felt loved. 🙂
I wish your 2020 is fruitful and the way you want it to be.
