Exceed Limits

you eye me
with a longing I know
running your fingers
along my plastic coat

you need me
to fulfil your wants
but don’t seem to care
when my funds you exhaust

you use me
to stack your shelves
with numerous books
of which, several still unread

you tap me
at the clothing store
to buy you dresses
which later you’ll abhor

you want me
at your beck and call
to indulge your needs
no matter how bizarre

I’m now done
with your demands
I’m cutting you off
from your whimsical plans

you swipe me
I don’t respond
except to tell you
your credit’s surpassed

If not for that image, I would never have guessed what the post was for!

So creatively and brilliantly done, Sanch.

Hehe thanks! The prompt was to write a poem from the point of view of a sarcastic inanimate object. Not sure if I got it right though but it was fun to get creative with!

Along my plastic coat….. this line gave away. brilliantly penned lines. Credit cards if used judiciously are a boon but a fickle mind can wreak havoc to the financial health of a person.

Haha! I was wondering what this was all about! The picture and of course, the last para was spot on! 🙂

I liked this quite a lot! I immediately knew it was a credit card, and would have known even without the image. Very well crafted, flowed nicely… well done!

Your choice to give power to the credit card added more interest to the poem. The voice here sees things about our transactions from a perspective I hadn’t considered.

The structure of the poem looks so tidy, unlike our bills!
Cards are a boon and a curse. 🙂 Nice piece.

That could be the poem my credit card sings almost every month. *hides face*
