New Year’s Resolutions

You promise to lose weight
You vow to eat less cake
You’ll eat only salads,
skip the wine and booze
You’ll hit the gym each day,
wake at the crack of dawn
You’ll be more organised;
the most efficient of all
At the stroke of midnight
these resolutions you make
last but for few weeks
and some, merely a day

Instead, wouldn’t it be good
If we all just resolved
to be better humans
by showing kindness to all;
by helping random strangers
and smiling at a few
Volunteering our time
to those who need a minute or two
Not judging others harshly
and treating all with respect –
Habits we could follow
from day one until the end

    Love this! 🙂 I also believe that the best resolution we can make is to become a much better person than we were before and as you wisely state to treat everyone with respect. Beautifully executed.

    It would be wonderful if we’d be better humans, and serve humanity with kindness and joy. Hope that that happens one day soon. The world could use it!

    The world would be a wonderful place if everyone took up the resolution to be better humans. This was such a lovely poem.

    Amen to being better humans – we sure need a lot more kindness and compassion in these trying times!

    The second part of the poem makes so much sense and the first part sounds monotonous… you know dead end kinds… same resolutions every year with the same story. Instead, doing something worthy or being worthy of someone’s life sounds better. Also, I feel, it’s part of bringing it our lifestyle… that’s how we can really make the difference!
