Their eyes met across the classroom.
She, at the front, under the teacher’s nose. He, at the back, by the window.
He grinned at her. She smiled before turning her back.
He watched her ponytail swinging as she wrote. She watched him as he read aloud a Shakespearean quote.
The shrill bell rang, startling them all. Students and teacher, made their way out into the hall.
He dawdled, waiting for her. She picked her bag, sensing him near.
Alone together at long last, he held out his hand; she held on fast.
