Anything but books

I’ve been struggling a little bit with writing on this blog. I guess my mind is still filled with regret and what ifs that I’m writing about in a notebook than out in the open. Consequently, this space has been neglected a little bit apart from the Friday Reflections posts and  one or two other ones. When Shantala suggested this tag to get to know bloggers better, I figured it was an easier way to fill this space.

Name a cartoon(s) that you love.

I’ve been a cartoon lover all my life. Even these days I love my animated movies. My favourite cartoons though would have to be Tom and Jerry and He-Man. I had previously written an entire post on cartoons too!

What is your favourite song right now?

I do love my music and recently discovered a new singer through my iTunes recommendations based on previous purchases. One of his songs really pulls at my heartstrings and it could be more so because of where I am currently in terms of my life and my recent breakup. The song is ‘Waves‘ by Dean Lewis. It gives me goosebumps! I’m going to see him perform live in July in Sydney so I’m excited about that. You can check out the song and tell me what you think:

What could you do for hours (that isn’t reading)?

That’s easy – writing, blogging and Netflixing. Netflix has sadly gotten in the way of reading. I need to find out how to manage that addiction!

What is something you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?

Hmm, I think I’m generally an open book here so I doubt there are surprises. One thing I do love to do is look at real estate sites for houses to buy {that I probably never will!} and also look at employment sites for jobs {even when I’ve been perfectly happy in jobs!} Yeah, it’s weird. But I think I just enjoy seeing what’s out there. Just in case {I now realise it might not be something I love to do but maybe something that helps keeps anxiety at bay?}

What is your favourite unnecessarily specific thing to learn about (this can do with books, I guess)?

Okay, so I don’t know if this is about learning necessarily but when I watch any TV show for the first time, I always go online to find out who the actors are and what other roles they may have played. This is even more important if the actors are cute or if I feel like I’ve seen them elsewhere. Yeah, strange. I know.

What is something unusual you know how to do?

I can write backwards in cursive without too much difficulty. Also, I can remember number plates if I repeat it to myself two to three times. In fact, some years ago when I was single and going to the gym diligently at 5 in the morning, I memorised the number plate of a guy I thought was cute so it was always motivating to see his car there at the gym. Of course, my mate A thought that was stalker material but whatever!

Name something you’ve made in the last year (and show us, if you can).

Yeah, I don’t make stuff. Unless you count food. And poems. Oh, that’s right! I did ‘make’ a writing blog last year {You can check out my poems and stories over there}. Having said that, I’m wondering about merging the two again because it’s hard to keep multiple blogs!

What is your most recent personal project?

Myself. I’m trying to work on myself. Learning to change some of my high standards, learning to think before I react, learning to be more mindful, learning to be a better person. All this while learning to also be compassionate towards myself. It’s going to take time but I will hopefully get there. Oh…and on a side note, there is a project I’m hoping to launch on the 1st of August. More details will be up soon.

Tell us something you think about often (maybe while staring out of windows)

Where do I start? My brain loves to have monologues. About life mainly but also about ideas for stories or the blog. Or about life.

Give us something that’s your favourite, but make it something oddly specific, not like your favourite food, but like your favourite food when you’ve been studying for hours and forgot to eat. Or, you know, something like that.

You’ve got Mail is my favourite movie to watch when I’m in a sentimental mood. I can watch it over and over again; say  the lines, cry at the same spots and anticipate my favourite scenes. It’s also a movie that gives me a sense of hope.

So there you have it! You’ve learnt something about me that’s more than books. If you enjoyed the questions, feel free to take it on and credit Shantala for the same.

Tom and Jerry are eternal favourites. I used to watch lot of He-Man too but could also be because, there was nothing else to watch. You can write backwards!! That is quite a surprise. Looking to the August announcement.

You can write backwards in cursive?? I can barely manage forwards 😛

He he he I like the anecdote about the cute guy’s license plate. So THAT’S why I never found the motivation to hit the gym. Who knew!

I love this tag. Makes you know something more about the bloggers you thought you knew really well 🙂

This was so much fun to read, Sanch. Netflix has been a problem for me of late as well. I am watching so many movies and shows that my reading is hardly anything. The good point though is that I am not spending any time on social media. 🙂 He-man was a favourite of mine as well along with Spiderman. Writing backwards in cursive is quite unique. And browsing sites one does not need anything from is a pain point for me too. Enjoyed this post.

That’s so cool that you can write backwards in cursive!

I do that too, looking up actors and finding out what other movies/shows they’ve been in. I don’t always end up watching the other movies/shows, but it’s like, I like having that knowledge in my head or something, you know?

BTW, I listened to Waves just now – beautiful song!

Best of luck for your personal projects – both yourself, and the one you’re gonna announce in Aug. Take care. Hugs!

I know enough people have said this, but still – cursive in backwards! Impressive. I can hardly write it properly.
Always happy to know a bit more about the faces behind the blogs.
    Good luck, Sanch!

Whoa! Cursive backwards!! Take a bow, lady!
He-Man was something I and my bro were addicted to, too! What fun it was! 🙂
It was good to learn so much about you, Sanch! And, let me tell you, we share something in common – I too am working on a new project these days – MYSELF! It’s tough work, sweetie, but we will get there!

    Love and hugs!

Wow! I’ll say it one more time – cursive backwards Wow! I can never remember numbers unless I make a huge effort to do so. That I remember my own and my husband’s phone numbers is a big deal for me. Oh and I do exactly that with the actors of film as also authors of a book I particularly liked. You’ve got mail is a favourite for me too. There’s something so very sweet about Meg Ryan and her book store is my dream book store.

I love You’ve got mail too! It is one of my absolute favourites!
And I love that you know how to write cursive backwards. Not an easy thing to do. I’m what you call ambidextrous or rather was because I hardly write anything using a pen these days.

This was a good one. Though I know you through your blog for so many years now it still seems we can always find out more about a person.

By the way, I have written an Anything But Books post too which is scheduled to go live tomorrow 🙂

  • July 2017: Serene sometimes, stressful at others - Living my Imperfect Life
    2 August 2017 at 8:42 pm

[…] The weekend after, I went to Mudgee with another group of friends. It was nice to getaway two weekends in a row but that, along with the stress at work, probably all caught up with me resulting in me falling sick. I finished my writing job in early July after realising working over 50 hours a week was not good for me. Instead, I set up a whole new project for myself. I also had time to read a few books this month and reviewed a couple of them. I also went and watched Dean Lewis live in concert. You can check out one of his songs in this post. […]
