Early Mornings #BarWoWe

It’s the time of the day when everyone else is still asleep. When all I can see outside the window is the silhouette of the trees swaying gently in the breeze. The cats wander quietly, yearning for me to scratch their ears. I walk around the house trying to keep things quiet. The floorboards creak occasionally. Slowly, as the sky turns from a deep black to a dark blue, the birds begin their cacophony.  In spite of the bed that beckons me back to its bosom, I persist with my tasks. My movements are like clockwork.

I gulp down my coffee staring at the changing hues of the sky. Some days it’s a clear light blue; on other days it can be peppered with fluffy white clouds. The change brings with it a sense of promise. The promise of a day about to begin. The promise of events un-experienced. The promise of a clean slate. The promise of ticking off things-to-do. The promise of smiles, of laughter, of chatter. The promise of a good book or beautiful words.

As the cats rub themselves against my black tights, I feel a sense of hope at the start of a brand new day. I may be rushing. I may be running late. But it’s a brand new day and at 5:30 a.m, it has just begun. There is so much more to be done.

Henry David Thoreau made a lot of sense when he said “Cultivate the habit of early rising. It is unwise to keep the head long on a level with the feet.

Are you a morning person?

I am not much of a morning person. I don’t have qualms in waking up early for a purpose, though. I even started waking up at six -o-clock daily for two weeks, but then the habit died out. I am inspired by your post. I had loved whenever I woke up ealier than usual. I think I should give it another try.

No I’m not but I don’t have a choice. The day has to begin at 5 on weekedays. I find if I sleep early, mornings are easier. And I have to admit I do love it when I am up early – the absolute quiet and the distant call of the azaan – that’s a very peaceful way to start the day.

I am a morning person since a long time now, and that is the time I love the most. The quiet and the peace gives me some much needed time with myself; moments when I can have some meaningful conversations with myself, albeit for a short span of time. But, that’s the time I feel closest with myself and with the world.
    I loved your write-up, Sanchie!

I am not too great on the mornings but I do love the calm and beauty. It is so peaceful, I love waking up early on my holiday trips and do nothing but watch nature with a mug of tea. 🙂
