If we were having coffee 22 October 2016 #WeekendCoffeeShare

If we were having coffee, I’d welcome you to my new home. I’d apologise for the mess as I have yet to unpack my stuff since last Sunday. Fortunately, my kitchen is unpacked which means I do have coffee, tea or hot chocolate available. So pick your choice, sit down and relax this rainy Saturday.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you the move was hectic last weekend and especially traumatic for the cats on Sunday. In spite of giving them both some vet-prescribed valium, they were anxious the minute they got in the car. Pebbles ended up pooping and peeing in the carrier barely 45 minutes into the drive. I had to pull over and clean her up following which she decided to just stay under the driver’s seat and not move for a whole hour. Eventually, I tricked her into getting back into the carrier but it wasn’t an easy ride. Buttons was also anxious and then he freaked out around the time we got to the Central Coast because he peed himself. Once we got to the place, the movers had already moved everything and Mr Imperfect and my friend J had unpacked a few things. The cats were in shock and just ran to their cat tower and hid under there for a few hours. I swear Pebbles was crying. In the end, all I felt was incredible guilt for putting them through this experience!

Clockwise (L-R): Pebbles under the car seat – I swear she’s crying πŸ™ , Settling in with wine & Netflix the first night, kitties on my lap the first night, Pebbles still wary and preferring to be under the covers, Buttons sussing out the place from the TV stand, the cats at night still unsure about the place

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you while I am still adjusting to the new place myself, I’m liking it. Yes, I am sleep deprived due to anxious cats but I’m hoping they will settle soon. I love that it takes me 20 minutes to get to work or 25 on a ‘bad’ day. This is so much better than an hour-and-a-half it used to take me! I still haven’t ventured out too much because of the anxious cats but I’m hoping by next weekend, I can explore the place a lot more.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you after three weeks at my new job, I’m enjoying it. I’m liking my team and I’m loving the work. All in all, it’s a win. With the kind of work we do, it’s great to have a supportive team.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I plan to stay home this weekend to keep the cats company. I have to work from home for a couple of hours as well. At some point I’ll head out for grocery shopping but apart from that, I want to be here for the kitties. It’s rainy and I have some writing work to do so it all works out well. Plus I have a lot of unpacking to do!

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I’m going to start the gym next week. I’ve checked out the local gym and am raring to go. After not exercising for almost two months, it’s going to be hard! I am due to walk 35 kilometres in November for The Bloody Long Walk so I really need to get my fitness up. I am fundraising for mito so your support would be greatly appreciated!

If we were having coffee, I’d ask you what your plans for the weekend are. I’d also ask you how long you’ve taken to unpack stuff after moving. And if you know how to help pets acclimatise to change. I’d also ask you to share how your week has been.

Do share!

Moving with kitties is always a charge. Remains of Joe Grey in his books when his human is talking about moving. He tells us everything is changed. The carriers alone is enough to frighten them. We never got Kato to accept a carrier, but he did settle down and rode in the RV. He even knew the parks we stayed at. He get so excited when we got near one of his favorites. When we moved some boxes didn’t get unpacked. I know you are glad to be partially settled. Have pleasa t week

Wow that is an amazing commute time – you won’t know yourself once you are all settled in and in the groove. As tough as it was, the hardest part is behind you now so hopefully it is all smooth sailing from here and you all settle in well. Congrats on making such a massive change!

It never crossed my mind that even cats could feel homesick, cry and get all stressed up! I do hope Pebbles and Buttons are feeling better now.

All the best for the new job and the prep for the walk in November! ?

Oh moving sucks balls with or without pets, but once you’re unpacked and the kitties are settled, the stress of moving will seem like ancient history! New job sounds fab and now you have a short commute, you’ll have so much extra free time on your hands! Winning! Looks like the sea change really was a move in the right direction πŸ™‚

My mother told me that you put butter on the cats paws when you move and I have always done that when I have moved a cat. I have never had one leave. When my mother was a child her family moved from Brisbane to Sydney and her cat Woosums made the long journey back eventually arriving months later. Perhaps that is when she learnt about the butter. Hope they settle soon. I have done moves where I have everything unpacked on the day I arrive and other moves when three years later I still have things in boxes. I think it is dependent on whether you have space for everything you have. All the best wand hope your new job continues to satisfy, the run goes well and the weekend at home with the kitties is successful.

Glad to hear that you have made the move πŸ™‚
I’m trying to get back into exercising too, but time is not on my side lately; I’ve been so busy!

Thanks for your update about the move. Who knew animals got so stressed..not me really. Then again, it makes sense. I hope things settle. I am glad you are liking the Central Coast so far. We enjoy the less busy lifestyle but there are some things I miss about a bigger place like Sydney too. I hope the job goes from strength to strength. Thanks for linking up for Life This Week. Denyse

I’m glad you survived the move and I hope the kitties feel more settled soon. Once you are settled in and more familiar with your surroundings I’d love to catch up – I’m only 40 mins away so it’s very possible!!!!

I’d love that Kirsty! It feels quite isolating at the moment not knowing anyone here. I haven’t of course had the chance to do much just yet but yeah, catching up sounds great

I hope the cats settle down soon. I’m sure they will. It never occurred to me they’d find it that traumatic but I guess it is understandable!

So glad the new place is working out. That shorter commute is worth the hassle of movie, i would think.

Congratulations on your new place and job πŸ™‚ I hope your cats settle in soon, they’re lovely! I’ve moved more times than I care to think, every time it’s always so stressful! It usually takes me about a month to get everything exactly the way I want, depending on how much spare time I have πŸ™‚

Ahhh.. I feel you. It’s been 3 weeks that we moved to our own place here, and at the rate we are going, it seems like we will take a year to ‘settle down’ (if not more). Sigh.

I have a 2 hour commute to work – one way, so have to start looking for another job soon. But as of now, I am sticking with the status quo, as I have too much going on on the home front. Hopefully soon – I can dedicate time to the job hunt.
