The Month That Was

The month that was August 2016

Goodbye August! And goodbye dreary winter months! Hello spring! And hello to all the hay-fever that’s going to hit me. August flew by quickly, didn’t it? Every month I promise myself not to say this again and yet, I’m still somehow surprised when months fly by. With September, we now enter the last quarter of the year. I’ll be honest, I can’t wait for December. Not because I love Christmas but just for all the public holidays.

Anyway, I digress. So August. It was an interesting month, one where I was quiet on the blogging front. The first week went well as I blogged for 7 days of the Bar-a-thon challenge on the writing blog and also blogged here for three days. The challenge was great as I dabbled in poetry and flash fiction based on prompts. And then things went downhill. I only wrote my mandatory Friday Reflections post. Why? Because life happened. Too much was going on, too much was happening and I was way too tired to write.

During August, I mused about the problems that arise when we attach meaning to words. I wondered who I would be if I wasn’t a psychologist and realised I couldn’t call myself anything else {except maybe, a writer}. I talked about never giving up as well as some things that were making me smile. Finally, this month, I also got offered a job up the Central Coast. I quit my current job just last week. A move up the coast is exciting and scary all at once but given it’s what I’ve been wondering about, there’s no better time to explore that than now.

I also did things for my mental health in August. I went camping at Meroo Head camp ground and felt rejuvenated. I hiked from Austinmer to Stanwell Park. I also had a friend’s wedding in the Hunter Valley on the final weekend of the month. My mood has most certainly not been flat thanks to planning for the future. My exercise and diet though, have still been crap.

On another note, I’m going to start the I Quit Sugar program this month {yeah, timing, I know!} and I’ll stick to it. But I’ll cut myself some slack in other departments for now until I move. I am going for walks and yoga but haven’t done any hardcore strength training like I used to. I need to get back into it.

How was August for you?

Any plans for September?

I feel that this move will bring you joy and peace. I can understand the jitters you are getting but have faith and stay positive. Know that you are never alone and your online community is with you. Hugs for a great start.
On a personal front, I am hoping September to be better and that I will be able to tackle my health issues.

You’ve been a busy girl! Congratulations on the new job and upcoming sea change! The best thing that happened for me in August was getting an all clear with my mammogram. Yay! Quitting sugar would be like quitting heroin for me. SO addicted. Good luck!
