Absurdly speaking #FridayReflections

I find it amusing how when we meet people, we are all pretty normal, pretty standard. I mean, most of us probably conform to societal expectations at least on the outside. Then, when people get closer to us, we might start to display our quirks and flaws, our little idiosyncrasies. We leave our crazies though, for the ones who know us best. Or in some cases, just to ourselves behind closed doors.

Like most of you, I probably appear reasonable, sane, calm, ‘normal’. But honestly, I’m just as imperfect as the person next to me. Here are five of the weirdly illogical and absurd things I do or have done in my life. I’m sure there are heaps more:

  • I made up a story about having a pet dog when I was younger. It was so elaborate, my friends believed me and so did their parents. You can imagine my parents’ surprise when one of the other parents asked them how the dog was doing!
  • I am not a fan of odd numbers except for multiples of 5 and the number 7. The volume on my TV, music system and the car audio system all need to be on even numbers or multiples of five.
  • Few years ago when I was still single, there was a guy at the gym I went to who I thought was kinda cute. I knew what car he drove because he happened to park in front of me a couple of times. I ended up memorising his number plate because I have a good memory for number plates. That way, I always knew if he was at the gym the mornings I was going. Of course, my mate A told me if a guy had done what I’d done, I’d probably consider that stalking.
  • When I eat from Subway, I’ll have all the veggies and toppings except lettuce. The last time I ordered that, the guy actually burst out laughing. I don’t know why but for some reason, I find lettuce — especially the one at Subway — a bit of a waste. I’d rather save my sub-space for carrots, capsicum, pickles or jalapeños!
  • I never used to like cats especially after I got scratched by one near my eye when I was about three or four years old. And now, you all know I’m a crazy cat-lady {Some signs of crazy cat-ladies such as, having an Instagram account for your cat, talking for your cat or tattooing your cats on yourself all make the cut!}

So yes, whether you like it or not, you are all a little more absurd than you make yourself out to be.

Would you like to share some absurdities?

Do tell!

    I love JK Rowling and I so agree with that quote. I am absurd myself. 😛
    Well, I think your being good in making up that dog story was a clear sign of how great a writer you’re gonna be.

    The previously hating cats fact came as a shock. Otherwise i too had the same volume craze (though not anymore). And we all do a bit of guy stalking 😛 . It’s nice to be a bit absurd, being normal is kinda boring. ?

    that’s a fun read… What’s life without being whimsy! I don’t like lettuce at all.. unless it’s dipped in cheese 😛 My favourite food is something which has all the flavours – sweet, salt, spicy, sour. Love laddus dipped in curd too.

    You hated cats before! Totally can’t believe that!
    I’ve never heard of the multiples of 5 thing before, though. It does seem very quirky and absurd!

    haha I lov that you say no lettuce! I am a crazy cat lady to, although I have always liked cats, except when I was pregnant and developed a phobia of them for a while. I don’t have tattoos of cats, but I do have 3 cats and totally talk to them, who wouldn’t talk to their cats, I mean that would be weirder wouldn’t it? Loved this post, I wrote on the same topic xx #Fridayreflections
