If I had magical powers #FridayReflections

Ever since I was a child, I dreamed about having magical powers. Books by Enid Blyton introduced me to fairies and brownies and pixies and other magical creatures. I also enjoyed watching Sabrina, the teenage witch when I was a teen myself and Bewitched as a child. Then of course, came Harry Potter — every child’s {or in my case, teen and later, adult} ultimate fantasy.

If I had magical powers, I’d first and foremost, hope I didn’t have any restrictions on them. I would prefer to use my fingers for magic a la Sabrina as opposed to having wands. Just more convenient, I think. I’d make use of my magical powers in the following ways.

Traffic in Sydney is a nightmare which is why I take public transport to my job at the moment. Having said that, it still takes me a good hour and a half door to door each way. I like that I can read or write but I hate that I have to leave so early and get home so late. So yes, if I had magical powers, I’d just snap my fingers and wish hard for where I need to be and voila! No time at all!

Another thing that takes time is cooking. Although, I must admit my new pressure cooker is awesome for that. Yet, I still have to chop up my veggies and prepare things. So my magical powers would certainly come in handy to whip up a good healthy meal quickly.

Do I really need to elaborate on this? Surely nobody enjoys cleaning! My unit constantly seems to be in a state of mess. With magical powers, I wouldn’t have to lift more than a finger to keep my unit spick and span!

Teach some people a lesson

I am tired of the unkindness I see around me. Not necessarily directed at me but to a lot of the kids I see in therapy. I really would love to teach bullies, abusers, perpetrators and other unkind souls a lesson. I don’t know how I’d do that really but maybe even use my powers to have them experience what they put others through to get an actual idea of what it’s like.

Get me all the books

I don’t think I’d use my magical powers to get free money {I think there was a clause about that in Sabrina, the teenage witch} but I certainly would use it to get more books. I do buy a lot of books and would continue to do so to support authors but I think occasionally, it wouldn’t hurt to wish myself some more.

Another tedious chore and unfortunately, an essential part of my job is keeping paperwork up to date. It’s a part of the job I have always disliked but I’m aware I have no option. If I had magical powers though, I’d be able to make the pen write neat notes while I am in session with a client therefore not requiring me to decipher and rewrite my squiggles.

Play with time

I wouldn’t go backwards or forwards in time. I don’t think it’s allowed. Rather, I would make time at work go by quickly and slow time down when I’m enjoying life. I guess though, given I would be using my powers to get rid of a lot of chores, I’m sure I’d have more time anyway for the things I love such as reading, writing, and exercising.

All these ideas are making me wish I really did have magical powers. I think life would be amazing!

What would you do with magical powers?

Are you a wand person or a magical finger/nose person?

Do share!

I’m definitely a wand person… I think I’d copy most of yours. I’d also add a health power so that I could make everyone better or at least, ease they’re suffering. I’d also add some dog powers so that every person could have a pet and they’d be no more silly strata rules!

Oh yes! I would just do what you do and add children’s chores to that like helping them with projects, homework etc.

So many great wishes Sanch! I’ve always wanted one of those tele-porters that they had in StarTrek and I could just say “beam me up Scottie” and I could be at work or visiting my kids in the city or whatever without the travel time in between!

At my 50th birthday party, someone gave me a 50th birthday wand. I enjoyed it so much so I know I would be a wand person. Instantaneous transport to work would be first on my list. I used to live in New York City so I’ve been part of that long commute, too. And, my life is full of paperwork. In fact, I’m ready to embark on another day now. Wish I could whip up a nice breakfast with my wand.

I don’t think I’d want to have powers that controlled time. I would be too afraid of messing something up, lol. But the cleaning one? Yes! It would be awesome if everything cleaned itself at the snap of a finger. I love your “Friday Reflections” prompts, I’m going to give them a try on my blog.

Loved every single one of your ideas. Especially about playing with time. I really wish time would cease when I start reading…like when there is nothing to stop me from reading a book from the start to end in one go. And maybe make myself awake all the time to walk around the streets at night, invisible.

Lovely list Sanch ! If I had a magical touch, then having all the books in the world, rapid cleaning power and playing with time would be some of my favorites too. I despise how my kitchen sink ‘magically’ fills up after every 4 hours and it would be so nice to make pots and pans spick and span. 😛

Just like you, even I have been a fan of Enid Blyton & Sabrina back in my childhood days. Those were magical times indeed. If only I had the power to relive some of my childhood moments. Great post!
