Fitness Friday: 12 week update

Just like that, my 12 week challenge is done. I had my final weigh-in and measurements this morning at the gym. As you might know, even though I started off well, I hit a bit of a slump around the half-way mark. Here’s my update on the final four weeks.

Weight: Turns out I have lost 1.1 kgs over the 12 weeks. More importantly, I have lost 4 centimetres on my waist and 9 centimetres on my hips! I lost 1% of body fat in the process too. Those to me are better measurements than the scales which constantly affect my motivation. But more on that in another post.

Body image: I continue to have a love-hate relationship with my body. Some days I look at it and I’m happy and other days I just hate myself and hate it. I don’t know if being depressed at the moment is also clouding my views but I need to remind myself to be a lot kinder. Once again though, this will be discussed in another post.

Strength: I definitely think my strength has increased. My core strength is so much better thanks to focussing on pilates. I have also been lifting a little bit heavier and feel really proud when I do it. I love comments from the trainers about my strength! 😛 I managed to bench press 20 kgs yesterday and even though my pecs still fucking hurt, it also feels so damn good!

Diet: Yeah, this is where I started to slip up. Again! While I previously had salt cravings, let’s now add sugar cravings to the mix too. I’m trying not to beat myself up too much and instead focus on the fact that I still eat a good lunch and dinner and that once I finish uni this month, I will have some more time to prepare healthy desserts to manage those sweet cravings.

Mood: Ah well, it’s been up and down. I’ve had some really down days and some good ones. This past week has been better as I’m trying to focus on gratitude and noticing the positive.

Sleep: Oh my goodness…once again, I realise just how essential this is! I have been on mid-semester break the last two weeks and have consequently had more sleep {about 7 to 8 hours}. I feel like a human being again and not a zombie anymore. I also wonder how much my lack of sleep was affecting my diet and my mood. Once again, giving it a month and then we’re back to hitting the sack at 9:30 p.m.

So there you go. Although the 12 week challenge is officially done, I’m not done. I would like to get stronger and fitter and maybe lose a few more centimetres around my hips and thighs {woo-hoo for pear-shaped bodies}. More importantly, I want to eat healthier and sleep better. My before-after photos come through sometime next week from the gym and I can’t wait to see what it looks like.

How have you been with your health this past month?

Do share!

***Linking with Ashleigh for Fitness Friday this month***

Until next time,

Cheers!!!

It’s been on and off with me, starting yoga again and need to be back in shape. I resigned from earlier job and have 2 weeks hiatus before taking new assignment. You need a pat on the back for this challenged. Hats off Sanch:)

Wow! How amazing, Sanch. The best this how good it feels. The biggest advantage of consistent exercise is the toning and the redistribution of of weight. I am enjoying the effects of my daily walks, too! Congratulations to you! That’s a great report! 🙂

I like how you focus on all the aspects of fitness – this is something I totally lack. Either I focus on cardio, or weights or just the diet… Last three months of the year are here and I need to do all of it together.
