Fitness Friday: 4 week update

I can’t believe I’m already 4 weeks into my 12 week challenge. It’s been great so far! Exercising hasn’t been an issue except for last week when I felt the after-effects of being a bit sick and only managed 4 sessions at the gym. But the week before, I managed 7 and so far, this week I’ve managed to fit in 6.

I wish I enjoyed running more...but I truly don't!

I wish I enjoyed running more…but I truly don’t!

My weight goal: I wanted to lose about 5 kgs and after weighing in this morning, I found that I’ve lost 1.8 kilos. While I know it’s not all about the numbers, it still feels good to see me getting there.

My body image: I am noticing that I’m a bit leaner than before — especially around my stomach which kinda wasn’t so flat after my holidays! My arms are starting to look a bit more toned but I have no hope for my thighs.

My fitness: I am definitely regaining strength. I started pilates every Tuesday morning at the gym and am noticing it’s helping my core. Cross-training and cardio has never been my forte and I still get exhausted during the 45 minute workouts but I’m not going to beat myself up for it. Oh…and there are still days when I can’t feel my legs and barely walk thanks to a sore butt and legs {Yes, squats, I’m blaming you!}

My diet: This was always my problem even before I started the challenge. I can safely say that so far, my diet has been going well. I haven’t stopped drinking but I have reduced it to just two glasses of red wine a week. I have still had my share of cheese and crackers and during our anniversary weekend, ate a bit of fudge. But apart from that, I haven’t had anything with refined or added sugars. And you know what? I’m not craving sugar either! {I am still craving cheese and salty stuff though!}

My mental health: While exercising is keeping me afloat, my mental health is still shit. I am making calls though as I realised the hours for the person I was referred to do not suit my schedule.

So yes, it’s been a good 4 weeks so far. I’m loving the gym even though the cold mornings make me want to snuggle back in bed. I’m still eating 5 meals a day but just with more protein and meals that are healthier. I’m still having an occasional drink.

As for Fitness Fridays, you can read the introductory post over at Ashleigh’s blog and link up to it. I’ll be hosting it the first Friday of September.

    Wow. I don’t have anything to say except wow!
    Well, I don’t generally crave sugar, but the other stuff – exercising and all, not my cup of tea!

    What a great update Sanch! I have no hope for my brown girl thighs either haha. I have long accepted they will always remain chunky but I love the tone exercise adds to them. πŸ˜‰

    I do a lot of Pilates along with my yoga and it has strengthened my core like never before. If you ever want to do it at home try using the videos at blogilates.com.

    Good luck with the rest of your challenge. I know you will smash it.

      Thanks lovely! I wouldn’t mind my chunky thighs if they were more toned but mine don’t seem as toned as some people’s. Sigh.
      I will check out that Pilates website…it sounds great!

    Wow six sessions a week is impressive! Are you doing all strength or a mix of strength and cardio? I have had a shit week last week due to being sick but your post has inspired me to get going again once better!

      Haha…yeah I’ve been going a bit overboard. Only a couple were purely strength sessions. Rest are cardio. I was sick the week before…helps resting the body a bit and then going back strong again.

    That’s great news, Sanch. Congrats on sticking with the challenge. I am also doing a bit of fitness challenge myself, not challenge perse. I am meditating, doing pilates for 10 minutes, yoga in the evening, and a 20 minute walk whenever my kid is up for it and the weather permits. It is helping me with my back pain and to keep the stress under control. πŸ™‚ Keep up the good work dear. πŸ™‚
