Out and About

Travel Tales: The Rocky Mountains. Absolutely spectacular.

The final leg of my trip was spent on the west coast of Canada. My sister and I headed to Vancouver and then, on the 26th, did a three–night, four-day tour to the Rocky Mountains through a tour group called Discover Canada. Given that the mountains are in the next province of Alberta, a lot of time was spent on the road. However, the tour group made sure we had some good stops especially on the second, third and fourth days and included some activities as well.

We basically drove through 5 National Parks in the space of four days — Revelstoke National Park, Banff National Park, Yoho National Park, Jasper National Park and Glacier National Park. We spent the longest time at Banff. Some highlights for me were Lake Louise, Bow Lake, seeing a black bear cub on a river safari at Blue River, going up the gondola at Banff and witnessing 360 degrees of amazing mountain views, and standing on an actual glacier {Athabasca Glacier}. The towns of Banff and Jasper were also pretty cool and time spent there was quite nice. The motels on our last two nights weren’t the greatest thanks to no air-conditioning or fans in freaking hot summer! But apart from that, I couldn’t really fault much of the trip. It gave us a taste of what to expect if we were to go back to the Rocky Mountains on our own and where we could potentially spend more time.

I’ll leave you with photos as my words just don’t describe the sights.

Like I said, it’s hard to find the words to describe it all. It was a wonderful four days out among nature…something I missed terribly as most of my other travel was in cities. I’m back home in Sydney now which is great but still have to update you guys on Vancouver and Whistler.

I think it’s great that you and your sister got to see some of the mountains, especially travelling through BC to Alberta. 🙂 I think Banff National Park, Yoho National Park, Jasper National Park are all so beautiful and especially with their aqua/turquoise lakes – didn’t see the others you mentioned, though I bet all lovely. And I’m so glad you got to see a black bear: how cool is that?! 😉 <3

My favourite part of Canada! I worked in a diner in Banff for a few months 10 years ago. Am pretty sure it’s closed down now. Such amazing natural beauty. I think Lake Peyto is my fave!

The Rockies and Candian Rockies have been on my hit list for a while. I’ve seen the Rockies in the USA but something seems more magical about them the further north you get. Fantastic pictures and I especially love the bear cub.
