W is for Working Out #atozchallenge

runningsinglet

Exercise keeps me sane. Honest.

When I initially started exercising years ago, it was to lose weight. But I noticed an amazing side-effect of exercise: the more I worked out, the better I felt in my body and my head! My moods weren’t plummeting any more and my anxiety and stress were so much more manageable!

Working out for me now is both about my mental health as well as as my physical health.

While I love lifting weights at the gym and strengthening my muscles, I have been getting a bit bored in this past month. Consequently, I have decided to venture out of my comfort zone that is the gym and look into other avenues of working out. This has involved looking into bootcamp as well as classes at my local leisure centre {my gym is a 24/7 one that doesn’t offer classes}, swimming, boxing or even just running after work.

Given my stress levels in the past month due to work, boxing has seemed to be a good choice. It;s something I’ve tried before and helps with getting out a lot of my frustrations. Plus I get to visualise a few people I’d dearly love to punch! Cathartic anyone?

At the end of the day though, I think one of the reasons for a bit of a change for me is that working out on my own has gotten a bit lonely. And I think I would like a social element to it. So bring on the bootcamp and the leisure centre classes. Not only is it going to be good for my physical and mental health because of what exercise does, but it gives me the opportunity to meet new people.

What’s your favourite way to work out?

Do share!

working out….needs lot of determination and will power….I always begin…do for few days or weeks and then something comes up…some sickness or kids and then I give up blaming no time. πŸ™ The best way to work out for me is walk..that’s all I can do..and my goodness, boxing? I wouldn’t try…

Working out is something that I used to do everytime I felt like it! And then stop! Disciplining yourself to doing exercise is something! Always admired those who do!

Ditto ditto ditto. I saw your topic for the day and had to come over. I too started out exercising to lose weight. I’m still doing that of course. But considering I’ve been at it for almost 15 years now the weight thing is just part of it. I’ve tried a host of things – kick boxing, yoga, weights.. Our gym offers group sessions which is the best part. About a year back I discovered Zumba.. and even with creaking knees I have a ball.

very motivating post. I had given up working out, a year back .. reasons being boredom and loneliness . However, no workout isn’t helping either. So I have to find a middle way out ..

Swimming is my passion and when I cant swim, I go in for walks. While my commitment for swimming is very high, the same cannot be said for walks though. I think, I need to have a motivating (pushing) buddy for walks!! Liked your kickboxing regimen!

Even though I love being outdoors, Excercise is something I was always lazy about, until I started displaying the infamous pouch and double chin. These days I go for walk and run in the evenings around the park. My hubby on the other hand used to be gym instructor during his college days. Thankfully he drags me out on my lazy days.

I love working out, primarily because it helps in making me feel good about myself. But after my daughter I have never really got time to work out. Consequently i put on considerable amount of weight πŸ˜› Now I am thinking of joining a dance class to lose the extra flab. Ironic no, how weight and work out both starts with W πŸ™‚

I am very bad at exercising, especially sticking with it consistently. I need to do better. πŸ™

Knowing that exercise is the only way, I do work out in the gym – classes mainly. Body Pump class is great with upbeat music but I’ve got to admit that riding my bike with my husband is the greatest fun – no routine, challenges galore, and companionship. Great post!
