A to Z Challenge Life lessons

E is for Explore #atozchallenge

explore

Explore. Seek adventures. Wander. Try something new.

These were things that used to scare me. I was not one for being spontaneous. I preferred the tried and tested. After all, there are several things that can go wrong when you try something new. You could get lost when you explore a new place. You could fall sick if you try a new food. You could get hurt when you wander.

Yeah, my mind used to be such a fun place!

But then slowly and steadily, I started to explore. Food was the easiest. Trying out new cuisines. Stuff I’d never eaten. Like African food. And it was a delight to experiment. Then it was with places. Oh the places! There are mountains to explore. New hotspots in the city to explore. Beaches to explore. Tiny towns up and down the coast. I am fortunate to live in a beautiful country and to have the means {read: car and foot!} to explore. Don’t ask me why it took me so long!

I love my adventures. I love planning some. And not planning others. Later this month, I’m embarking on a camping adventure to Barrington Tops National Park. I’ve never been there but I’ve seen pictures and am dying to go there! Having never done any of the hikes, we are all going on an adventure and will be exploring the place together. πŸ™‚ Then there’s my road trip in May down the South Coast. That is definitely going to be two weeks of exploring. Being spontaneous. Seeing where the road takes me. Or is that where the wind takes me?

I feel alive when I explore. Like a child discovering something new. And I think sometimes as adults, we forget that joy of discovery. We are so caught up in our day to day routines we forget what it feels like to find something new. To have an adventure.

So take some time out of your life.

Go. Explore.

When was the last time you went exploring?

Do share!

I love to explore not only outside, but to explore other peoples ideas, which is why I love books and writing. When we got our first dog, we set out to find new and different places to walk him, it was a joy to discover that what we thought was a boring city, actually had many fab places to go.

We now have our favourites to which we are constantly adding new ones. However, even our favourites can be explored in different ways.

So true – it’s so important to explore! Now that winter seems to be over in my part of the world, I’m looking forward to getting out and doing just that. Thanks for sharing your inspirational thoughts!

In our training workshops, we always share that each one us should ask this question to ourselves every 10 days, “When was the last time, I did something for the first time?”. And this question should push us to explore and experiment and seek new experiences!

Something I have started to realise is that I am not that adventurous kind. I am in fact never known for experimenting with my food somehow..

Not much of a traveler, unless you count browsing πŸ˜‰ But I agree with the rest of what you have said. It is important to explore and expand our horizons. Stepping out of the comfort zone can be quite challenging, but rather fun, if you give it a chance.

My husband is from Norway, and we usually go there at least once a year. Spending time shopping travel sites for the best deal is, in a way, part of the fun!
When we both retire, I hope we’re still well enough to spend a lot of time traveling. It’s sad when people retire only to get struck down before they can enjoy their retirement. This happened to my uncle, (RIP) who had a serious stroke shortly after he retired.

Great post! I love exploring, whether it’s around a new city, like a few days ago in Harrisburg, or a local park, like my husband and I did this afternoon. One of our favorite things is taking a road trip and stopping whenever something strikes us to photograph or explore. I’m so glad we have that in common πŸ™‚
