A to Z Challenge Life lessons

D is for Dive In #atozchallenge

divein

Lately I have been getting frustrated at work. Frustrated with some clients who continue to avoid difficult situations and remain stuck. Frustrated that I am not able to motivate them enough to budge. That this life is not worthwhile enough to make them take action. To make an attempt to change.

I realise it’s a tad unfair. I know I’m almost burnt out {Oh Easter break — where art thou?!}

Because I used to be like that. {Maybe still am sometimes} I am an anxious person. I used to be a lot worse. To the point of not trying. In my comfort zone, I’d remain. And yes, it took a lot of courage to get out of it.

But honestly, I do think — what’s the worst that can happen when we take a chance?

In order to live a full life…in order to feel alive, we need to dive in when a situation presents itself. Jump at the chance. See if it’s worthwhile. We will never fully know before diving in what lies at the bottom of the incredible ocean. Just as we will never ever know the outcome of a situation unless we experience it wholly.

Anxiety and fear are the biggest immobilisers when it comes to taking a chance. They tell us that things could go wrong. That a relationship might not work out. That asking for that promotion may be rejected. That you might hate the new country you move to.

But so what?

Usually when things don’t work out, we learn, pick up the pieces, take time to heal and then move on to the next thing we want to take a chance at.

I have been living courageously as you now know. But to live courageously also involves diving in a fair few times. I have had my heart broken. I have been let down. But in the end, none of it has killed me. And I’m here to tell the tale.

The next time an opportunity presents, rather than asking “Why should I take this?” ask yourself “Why shouldn’t I?”

How are you at diving in? Can you take a chance at the unknown?

Do share!!

Good post. It comes back to that thinking, “What’s the worse that can happen?” I guess it takes a certain mindset to realise that taking a chance doesn’t always mean it’s the end of the world if things don’t turn out. But it’s good to have that fear. Because when things do work out, then we completely appreciate what we’ve accomplished.

wonderful pic, wonderful thoughts and wonderful take on D. When I read about Dive in- I thought about my cliff-jumping moment. When I was scared to death standing up on a cliff… trying to push myself to jump and my instructor behind me was motivating me… I survived, though I read soon after that some deaths took place in that area. But such is a life- you motivate and push yourself to do something uncomfortable to emerge as a stronger individual. Some survive through it others dont!

Thank you for posting this. I’ve been struggling to learn to dive in, too, for the past few decades. I grew up as a worrier, anxious about just about everything (Are the doors locked? I just checked them, but are they still locked? How about now, are they still locked?). Over the years, I’ve learned to let go of some of my worries, by asking myself what’s the worst that could happen? This has helped me jump into more things and enjoy them rather than worrying about failure. I wish I had learned this earlier in life.

Just the kind of post I needed right now.

I am badly suffering from anxiety these days. Don’t know how to curb it.

My dive in moment was work related. I decided to move cities. It is the best!

I love this! I’ve taken a couple of big risks myself, and can definitely say that they were worth it. Thanks for sharing your perspective!

I am loving your theme and where you are going with your AtoZ Challenge! It is giving me so much to think about and I am loving the pictures and quotes as well. I am going to try and change my thinking and asking myself that question!

Yes I can just dive in and do because what is the worst that can happen? Must be hard when you see the potential in others but they can’t!

Fear is sometimes the best motivator; I’m usually reluctant to dive in, but once I do , there’s no turning back πŸ™‚ Lovely description, PB πŸ™‚
