Theatre Time: To Kill a Mockingbird

Last week I had the opportunity to watch a stage adaptation by Christopher Sergel of one of my favourite books: To kill a mockingbird. I have read the book and watched the movie and well, have loved both. So when I found out the New Theatre was staging the play, I was very keen to watch it!

I went for the preview on the second day. I am not exaggerating when I say I was blown away. I laughed. I cried. I felt nervous. I felt despondent. I felt hopeful. All of which I felt while reading the book. In spite of knowing the story and the outcome, I found that I was still hanging on to every word. Every movement. Every emotion. The actors were all brilliant. Special mentions must go to Teagan Croft who played little Scout and was amazing throughout the play with her southern accent, Hudson Musty who played the conflicted Jem, and Katy Avery who played Mayella Ewell and was brilliant when she had to take the stand to claim she was raped.

I am planning on going to watch it again with a friend who couldn’t make it when I went the last time. Yes, I liked it that much! To Kill a Mockingbird is running at the New Theatre now until the 19th of April. Check out the website for session times. And do go and support our local talent! They are brilliant!

Until next time,

Cheers!!!

It’s been long I haven’t watched a play, may be, ages. It’s always awesome to watch your favorite book expressed on stage:)

Loved the book and the movie as well. I’ll never forget going into a video store one day and seeing it on the shelf. The teenagers on staff had made one of those standard covers for it and had labelled it “To Kill a Monkingbird”. Should be standard reading in schools like it was back in the olden days when I attended 🙂

I am a little embarrassed to say that despite having a very old and tattered copy on my bookshelf I have never actually read it! Will get to it one day!

I just adore that book. Isn’t it amazing that Harper Lee never wrote anything else but this one book? It is like she poured all she had into this one leaving her with nothing more to say.

I wrote a letter to myself a long time back. Took the liberty of linking up with your linky… 🙂
