Reading Challenges

2013 Reading Challenges: Fail

Just a couple of my shelves

Just a couple of my shelves

In December last year, I signed up to a number of Reading challenges.

And I failed them all. Miserably.

Goodreads: 27 (out of 50)

Aussie Author Challenge: 6 (out of 12)

Australian Women Writer’s Challenge: 6 (out of 10)

Indian Quills Reading Challenge: 3 (out of 5)

Off the Shelf: 5 (out of 15)

What can I say? When I took up those challenges at the end of 2012, little did I know how social I was going to be this year. Hiking, camping, making new friends, socialising, reading books for my book club — well, all of these took time away from reading for the challenges. If I do decide to sign up for challenges for next year, I’ll definitely be reducing my targets!

Did you take up any reading challenges this year?

How did you go?

Share any challenges you might be taking up next year!

Until next time,

Cheers!!!

oh yeah me too. I failed all of them, because of the same reason – travelling, socializing etc.

Haha…sometimes, life just gets in the way! Not that we regret it, of course! πŸ˜‰

I’m the same! When I set out to do a few challenges and also made a resolution to write every day, I was totally unaware of all the things that would happen to get in the way! Breakups, new relationships, family drama, illness, surgery, moving! I think it’s actually amazing that I got anything done at all.

All you can do is your best though, and good for you for getting through it.

Next year I plan to write more – I want to finish at least three shorts, a novel and a memoir. That’s a lot of pressure, but really, it’s just a lot of little bits that add up to one big bit. I also want to get fitter again!

Good luck with your challenges for the next year.

You’ve had one busy year! But yeah, we don’t realise the other things life will throw at us when we take up these reading challenges! Good luck with your writing in 2014!

I suck at reading challenges and have given up on them completely (almost). This year, I did try the Japanese lit reading challenge (and didn’t do too badly), the Classics club challenge where I read a token book or two, and Man Booker challenge (3-4 books). Not bad! But I’m not doing any more either. Nor, do I pressure myself.

I am thinking I need to do a couple of fitness challenges in 2014 though. My fitness has reached an all-time low this year πŸ™

Good to know I’m not the only one who can’t complete these challenges. Mind you, I did complete them the last couple of years but then again, I wasn’t doing much else outside of work and home! Fitness challenges sound good…let me know if you come across any. Wouldn’t mind some myself!
