What makes a successful blogger?

How do you know if you are ‘successful’ as a blogger?

Is it when you have more than 10000 unique visitors to your site?

Is it when you receive about 50+ comments on every post?

Is it when you have more than a 1000 posts?

Is it when you win blogging awards?

Is it when you have several giveaways or sponsors or ads?

Is it when you start making money from your blog?

Is it when you can quit your day job and just rely on your bog for income?

Is it when you get published because of your blog?

I truly don’t know.

But what I do consider ‘successful’…

…is engaging with regular readers.

…is spreading awareness about issues.

…is making even one person feel like they are not alone in what they might be experiencing.

…is receiving occasional emails with people confiding in you.

…is writing about things you are passionate about.

…is personal growth that comes across in your posts.

…is being you.

A friend of mine was kind of getting up me not too long ago for not ‘going further’ with my blog. When I asked what that meant, she said I should monetise my blog seeing as I put so much work into it. She thought I needed advertsing and sponsored posts and to really work on my ‘brand’.

I’m not a brand. I’m me. And I get this feeling that if I did try and cash-up from the blogging, I just wouldn’t be able to be myself. I’d rather be me and just do my thing that try and be something I’m not to get money (though some money? Would be nice. 🙂 )

Just having people like what I write? That’s enough of a reward for me.

I’ll be the first to admit Molly that if I can make money from the blog, it’s a bonus but I’m not going to be changing my style or myself for that any time soon. And that whole ‘brand’ thing is something I’m yet to understand. I was struggling with the whole niche thing myself a while back but I’ve decided my niche is ‘life’ 🙂

I for one truly enjoy reading what you have to say! 🙂

    I SO agree with you!

I love the fact that I have an outlet where I can just be me, I love the fact that I receive messages from readers saying they enjoy the blog and that it makes them feel glad they’re not alone. Yes, I do receive contact to do the occasional sponsored posts but that’s not why I do it. I enjoy these things so much so that I’m thinking about starting another blog on one of my passions!

Welcome here Eva! Oh I’m with you in that I do accept sponsored posts and products but I don’t want to lose myself while doing that. This space has to still be about me! That’s great that you are thinking of starting another blog based on what you are passionate about…it will definitely come through!

Thats an interesting post PB…Honestly, I would love to be in a phase when my blog would bring in my bread as well..but thats not happening…so I just love what I write, my blog is my own space and its my best sounding board 🙂 Successful or not, I love blogging and the kind of virtual friends it brings along with it 🙂

Oh RM…if I could make money from my blog, I’d love it too. But I don’t know if that’s necessarily considered successful. And yeah, like you, monetarily successful or not, I do love blogging and the engagement. 🙂

Depends on what were your goals when you started blogging. I started it an all-time low in my life… at a point where I was even questioning why I was still alive. My blogging journey helped me find the answer to that question and some other questions along the way. More importantly, it helped me pull myself out of that dark phase. So I think it’s been a successful journey for me so far. Now, of course, I have a different set of goals for this activity. Wanna try out new forms of expression and creativity. Time will tell how successful I am at that. People have a lot of rigid mental images with the term “successful”.

I am a little trn to be honest, I definitely want my blog to be my outlet for being able to write what I like when I like but I would also like it to be successful…. But still being all very new at this I have no idea how to go about doing that….

Oh Zita…I’ll be the first to admit I’d love to make money from blogging! It’d be a definite bonus. And I’m attending problogger for understanding a bit more around that. At the same time though, I don’t want to lose myself and focus on making this a brand. I still want it to be me. I guess it’s about finding a balance in some ways…

It is hard to define success and have it apply the same for everybody. We all have different ideas of success is, for us. I am happy at the moment, my blog is something just for me and my creativity. I love to share what I do and see, and it makes me happy when other people like it too.

There are so many “successful” bloggers out there…but I reckon, being successful is how YOU perceive it. If you’re happy with the way your blog is developing, it’s successful. And yes, I too would rather have a few involved readers than a thousand “numbers” hanging around.

I’m constantly asking myself these same questions. I’ve spent the last six months feeling like I’m in a race that no matter what I do I just can’t win. But blogging isn’t a race. Well, it just can’t be for me anyway. The anxiety of it gets me down.

Success for me is publishing a post I’m proud of, that helps me get my thoughts out, but also might help someone else with similar issues.

Blogging success for me is also the friends I’ve made and the connections I’ve had with people I don’t know.

I don’t ever expect to have a commercially successful blog but I do hope that I am creating a place that might help people, inspire them, make them feel less alone. A place where my son and any descendants of mine, should they have the interest, can find out about me and my life. I sure wish my grandparents and great grandparents had blogs!

Like it was said earlier success in blogging is different for everyone of us.
