Kitty Kapers

Poor Pebbles…

…appears to have sprained her paw.

I noticed it last night…it was ever so slight but she seemed to have a limp. I noticed a change in her demeanour since yesterday morning when she didn’t come purring to me in the morning. Anyway, I tried to see what had happened last night — whether she had stepped on something sharp or whether Buttons had bitten her and injured her but couldn’t find anything and well, little-miss-squirmy wouldn’t let me look for long.

Fortunately today I had taken a day off for a different reason [we had new intercoms installed in our units and someone had to stay home. Due to the cats, I didn’t want to leave my keys with a neighbour and go to work]. So I called the vet and made an appointment. The wait until then was hard. Watching Pebbles being so quiet, sleeping in the cat tree all curled up, hobbling very badly — broke my heart! And Buttons — the cheeky little bugger — still kept trying to annoy her. Resulting in him getting yelled at a few times by yours truly.

Visited the vet. She was more distressed than any other visit. And well, vet couldn’t find anything that appeared broken outwardly or that seemed like bite marks. And fortunately, she was healthy every other way and her appetite was still good. He reckons she must have sprained a muscle while running with Buttons or might have landed awkwardly when they were chasing each other. So he injected her with an anti-inflammatory and I have to give her some every day for the next 5 days and continue to monitor her. If no change, I might have to go back and get x-rays done. And in the mean time, I also have to make sure she doesn’t exert herself by running around like crazy with after or from Buttons. Which means controlling him too. Sigh.

What made me think 2 cats would be better than 1?

I agree they are gorgeous. And yes, Pebbles has taken to Buttons now. But she’s still a bit quiet. And he’s trying to assert himself which means he’s bullying her now. The vet reassured me and said to give it time.

Mind you, despite all that, it didn’t stop me thinking if I could get another one while I was waiting for the vet and saw kittens up for adoption in the waiting area! And you know? If I didn’t live in a unit but a house instead, and if I had more money, I probably would have gotten another.

I must be mental.

Until next time,

    Wishing Pebbles a speedy recovery.
Laughing at ‘Buttons bullying Pebbles now’. What a role reversal. Cheeky kitty!

No you are not mental. I feel like that too. Only difference is you’ve actually brought home 2, while I’m still contemplating.

Good going gal. Proud of you!

Hehe thanks Gangu! Pebbles is doing better…the medication appears to be working. And yes, the role reversal has me a bit troubled to be honest…always thought she’d be the dominant one given how feisty she is!
