Old is Gold

This week’s BlogThis Challenge is

Photograph anything old. People, your old teddy, buildings, antique nick-nacks, books whatever you like – what you think about it, if it does or doesn’t inspire you – what makes it interesting or special?

And here’s my photograph:

This is my teddy. My koala to be precise.

I got him when I was just a year old and he is still around today when I’m almost 26. Unfortunately, he is currently not with me and this picture was taken when I visited Bombay earlier this year after a span of 4 years. The only reason I didn’t get him with me was because he wouldn’t fit in my suitcase. Both times.

I sometimes think that he is a sign that I was meant to settle down in Australia. He represents my love for Australia. Getting a koala at age 1 inspired me subconsciously to come to Australia. And make it home.

I know he is missing an eye. I can’t remember how he lost it. But I do remember being upset. We had stuck it on with superglue. But apparently, superglue isn’t that super either! Who would have thought?

I realise I never really gave him a name. At least not one I can remember. But I did have him in bed with me for years. I would talk to him (more so during the pre-Gilly days) when things got difficult and when I was stressed. He has seen my tears, my happiness, my anger.

And he’s patiently been through it all.

I do miss him and wish he was here with me to share Sydney.

@ PNA: Would love to see Mushi’s pic sometime! 🙂

@ Matt: Oh looking forward to seeing the pic of your teddy. And no, it’s not girly. I reckon there shouldn’t be any gender differences when it comes to toys. For eg, if a boy wants to play with Barbie dolls, so what? And re getting my family to send it here…too expensive. Will try to get it myself the next time I visit…will try to not buy as many shoes and books and clothes as I did this time! 😛

@ BM: You make soft toys! Awesome!!!

@ Sonu: It was you!!! Lol I think I remember now. Anyway, will get him when you are no longer living there.

    @ MPH: ROFL!

@ Sid: Oh I’m sure you have many interesting ones! 🙂 You’ve travelled heaps and work in a library too…so there should be something antiquey around…

@ Titaxy: Wow…only until a few years ago? I had Koala and several other small ones…there was a bunny, a pup, a small teddy, a chipmunk etc etc. Loved my soft toys more than dolls. 😛 Would love to see pix of yours

@ G: Too expensive to get him couriered. And he won’t be a good substitute for a roomie because he can’t help me financially 😛

@ Richa: Thanks! 🙂 I’m sure you can just take it on any way…would love to see what pix you put up!

@ Pesto: Lol…let’s not even go there!!! 😀

    Aw, he is so cute!
I remember when my teddy bear that I got at birth lost one of his eyes when I was about 7…I coloured it back on with a black marker!
