Welcome to Sanch Writes!

Hi! I’m Sanchana, but you can call me Sanch. I’m a psychologist for adolescents and young adults by profession and a writer by passion. Originally from India, I’ve called Australia home since 2005. I currently live in Sydney on Cammeraygal land with my two {slightly demanding} rescue cats, Pebbles and Buttons. When I’m not writing or working with clients in my day job, you will also find me reading, listening to music, chilling at the beach, training for powerlifting, going to live gigs, or hiking in the bush. I also occasionally binge-watch series and love trying out new craft beers.

I like to write a lot of things and I’m currently working on a short story collection and a memoir. I have a draft contemporary YA novel sitting in my folders and continue to write and submit essays and short stories for competitions. I’ve had short stories published in anthologies and one of my stories was shortlisted for the 2021 Peter Carey Short Story Award.

I have a varied reading taste {literary fiction, contemporary fiction, contemporary YA fiction, crime fiction, thrillers and non-fiction} which results in me having way too many ideas to write about but then trying to stick to one and finish it. I also dabble in poetry and am constantly looking at improving my writing.

On this website, you will find book reviews, posts about writing, micro fiction, fiction and poetry, as well as snippets into my life. Stay tuned to follow me on my writing journey.
